Cars and trucks used on German aerodromes
Hi,
Does anyone know of a site where I can check out photo's of German cars and or trucks of the WW I era ?
I know for example that some Opels were used and the 1913 Mercedes Benz torpedo concerning the cars and the Marienfelde truck was also popular. Where there others ? Which models ? Any ideas ?
I want to make the comparison of the models I have on a number of photo's on aerodromes in West-Flanders.
Thanks and best from Johan

I've often wondered about the same subject, mein Freund!... Such as the truck featured in "The Blue Max"... What type was it??? Was it historically accurate???
I think I'll invest a couple of hours this afternoon and see if I can't dig something up! "Hals und Beinbruch!"

I have some photos....
... let me make some scans and I can post some pictures with cars & trucks. As a start. Search for the "How They Got To The Front" threads in "Aircraft of WW1" Forum. There should be a couple of pix posted there already.

Cliff & Stogieman, many thanks, meine Freunden! I appreciate the suggestions. After pounding the net for a couple of hours, all I was able to come up with were a few photos of French and British trucks/lorries... No Deutsche Lastwagen, I'm afraid! I'll check out your sources. Viele Dank!

I'm not sure if the following truck is one of the Daimler Marienfelde or not... The image is definitely from TGW though. Your thoughts, Gentlemen...

Johan,
no webpage I'm aware of, but (with a little luck, if I get this working again) here are 4 pictures of a 4t Opel truck. I took these pictures in the Technikmuseum in Sinsheim (near Heidelberg), where ths nice restored example can be found. Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to photograph the truck, as it is squeezed in between to other (slightly) more modern ones.

...and as it was impossible to photograph the whole truck, here's a pic of a model of that 4t Opel:

Outstanding examples, Volker!... I didn't know Opel manufactured vehicles back then, thank you!
