Proof parachutes?
Nachrichtenblatt #22, 1918 reports for 7. Juli 1918 the destruction (in flames) of a German balloon by hostile aircraft. One of the attackers flew into the balloon and died. Furthermore Nachrichtenblatt reports the "Imprägnierung" [water proof] of the parachute resisted against the fire [of the balloon?] and the ballon observer landed with injuries [from the fire] in face and on hands.
Does anybody knows more about the kind of water-proof of the German parachutes?
Is this in anyway able to protect the parachute [a little bit?] against becoming enflamed near a burning balloon? Sounds strange to me.
