Hi Tobias

I also have that FA 14 was located at Attigny Südwest on 1 Jul 18 and that FAA 270 lb was stationed at Attigny Nord the same day...

Maybe FAA (AFA 212) was stationed at Attigny in the spring of 1916...?

Just from my memory, Tobias:

Last CO Royal-Saxon Hauptmann Siegfried Käßberg (observer) - he demobilised the unit in Gotha in late 1918.
Royal-Saxon Leutnants Ulrich Eggersh (observer) and Franz Büchner (pilot, later 40 victories) were members of the unit early in 1917.
As well Royal-Saxon Vizefeldwebel Reinhold Nietzsch (pilot).

Hi Tobias

I have a list with over 70 flyers serving within the unit during the War, included when the unit still was called FFA 10...

It was a very stationary unit which despite it was recorded moving to the front in Aug 1914 with 4 German Army, soon came within the 3 German Army. They probably stayed in the Champagne until EOW....
I only have 7 possible airfield where they were located.

I also have possible 6 different commanders. Among them was Hptm Elard Baron von Löwenstern who wrote at least two books about his War experiences...

I dont have any photos at all, so I cant help identifying people that way...

Tobias,

K.S. Leutnant der Reserve Christian Bernhard Tauchnitz,
Leutnant der Reserve Friedrich Wilhelm Röhrschein (Beobachter, seit 13.1.18 bei FA 270),
Leutnant der Reserve Köbke (Pilot),
Leutnant Hermann Freiherr von Bongart,
Leutnant Gerhard Kuno Arthur Theodosius von Franzius [mE. Frantzius],
Viezefeldwebel Fritz Schubert.

MfG

Gunnar,

I assume Löwensterns (CO FA 270 LB: 6 July - 8 October 1918) full name is

Adelbert Johann Elard von LOEWENSTERN (1886-1946)?

Can you confirm this name?

He was really important in Germany´s history writing - I have seen at least 6 books about airwar published or written by Loewenstern himself.

Hi Rammjäger

You are most certain correct that von Löwenstern actually spelled his name von Loewenstern....
His rank was also Rittmeister (not Hauptmann) and he was promoted on 22 Mar 16...his original regiment is given as Ul Rgt 1...

I have actually rather limited information about him, except a fair service record... And I have only one of his books which not directly deals with his WW1 career...

Regarding confirmation for all of his first names, this is probably a question for "von" Frese or someone else...

Hi,

yes Hannes, the names are right. v.Loewenstern died as Generalmajor and POW in a russian camp near Hohenschönhausen/Berlin in July 1946. The prussian authorities allowed his father to use the title "Baron" in 1906.

Bad luck within Elards family, because his older brother drowned as a sailor in 1905 at Cape of Good Hope and his sister was shot by the russians during the great escape in 1945...

Regards,

"von" Frese
