Richthofen's monument in Poland
Hi,
As you know, Manfred von Richthofen was born in Wroclaw. When he was a child his family moved to other polish city, Swidnica. During the war (and after war) his family lived in there.
In 1917 or 1918 in Swidnica German rear a Richthofen's monument. I have some foto of this monument (from my friends).
During the war:

And today:

It may be interesting for someone

Thank you for posting that (somewhat sad) recent photograph--it was interesting to me! I have my wife talked into going there next time we go to Europe--after I drag her around France and Germany for a while.
I see in your post that you are in Poland. If so, will you please translate the graffiti?

Richthofen birthplace
Peteroz,
Thank you very much for the 2 photos. When you cannot visit a place, it is so helpful to have information from people who are actually there!
Just wanted to add a note so people aren't confused....Manfred was born in the town of Wroclaw but at that time, it was known as "Breslau." The old Prussian names in Silesia have changed.
I had heard that this monument was desecrated which is sad but understandable considering the events of WW2 and later. Thankfully, the old cadet school at Wahlstatt, formerly a Benedictine monastery (now Legnickie Pole http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legnickie_Pole) has survived the years.
Very Best Regards, FliegerJG1

Hi Friends
Many german and Austro- Hungurian pilots were born in Poland. Not only Richthofens brothers. For example, Frank Linke-Crowford, was born in Krakow (as I say, my city).

Yes, of course. As you know, Silesia is now in Poland and called Śląsk, Breslau called Wrocław.

Richthofen home
Peteroz,
Thanks again for the additional photos of the monument. I'd certainly enjoy seeing any photos of the home that you have.

Hi
It's foto of Richthofen's family hause in Swidnica. Manfred, his brothers, sister, mother and father-Albrecht lived in this house since 1901. Curently house is in Genreal's Sikorski Street.

In 1922 or 1923, after Lothar's death, Richthofen's family bulid a small monuments in one of the city's park. Today's view of it:

Lothar's and Manfred's mother planed also a "Richthofen's oak".

Peteroz,
I had the great pleasure of visiting Krakow last year. It is indeed a very beautiful city, especially the older parts with the old cloth-hall. Not forgetting the Wawel!

Very nice opinion. Thanks Of course, Wawel is one of the most important place of old city. During World War II in Wawel lived Hans Frank
And, can I ask, where do you slept when did you be in Karkow?
