I was considering subscribing to this magazine, and was wondering if it is worth the investment.
Thanks

I believe Over the Front to be the best WWI publication available. I'm proud to own every single issue of every volume and consider it a cornerstone of my library.
Further, OTF is currently suffering from a decline in subscribors. Your subscription not only gets you the best WWI publication in the world, it helps ensure that this magazine will stay in publication in the future.

Dear F89N88:
You might find that some of us here are a bit, er, biased in favor of "Over the Front" since we write, edit or otherwise contribute to it - all voluntarily, I might add, with no payment. It is the best U.S. non-profit journal (with a gracious nod to "Cross & Cockade International" , also superbly done ) devoted to WWI aviation operational history out there. How many magazines are there devoted ENTIRELY to this subject, anyway ? "Over the Front" is worthy of (and needs) your support, so sign up. I don't think you'll regret it.
If your interest lies in the technical side of WWI aviation - nuts, bolts, and longerons - then try to find a copy of "WWI Aeroplanes", another fine journal, but with a decidedly different emphasis than OtF or C & CI.
Very best regards,
Greg

Greg:
Well put, I'll second your statement about OtF and CC Int'l and WW1 Aero. Its too bad they are not publish monthly. Then we would get Greg's issue twice a year.
The Schusta 27b Halb. Cl.II with "dog from hell"
on the left side, I just finished Plate 8 with as one of the profiles. Would you like a 3 view for the rear cover of OtF? If I could get the markings on the right side I'll do a 5 view. Hmmmmmmmm?
Blue Skies,
Dan
P.S. Can't do it until after the first of the year. Got to finish the book first!

Dan,
I cannot speak for other issue editors, but I'll take your cover art some time, for sure ! Maybe we should check with Cigogne..
Maybe Todd Comeau could do some more Halbs and Hannovers for us too !!
Greg

Hey Greg,
if I subscibe to OTF now (C&C intl are asking me to in their subscription renewals flyer), and I part with my cash, can you tell me when the first journal will appear through my letter box?
I only ask, as it's difficult to justify the outlay to my wife if the Spring 2004 issue fails to arrive until say June or July next year.
This isn't meant as a critcism, just a query as to when you see the late publishing problems getting sorted. Will 2004 start off on the right foot?
Mike

Ok, sportsfans, if I were to try and obtain a full set of OTF, how many volumes would we be talking about? *
Or, if that is going to be a somewhat prohibitive venture, what would be, let's say, the Top Ten (or more) issues to obtain?
Thanks. *;D

Hello,
MikeW, I really can't tell you when the first issue of 2004 will be out. Since we're behind schedule now, I doubt that it will be before march/April 2004. This is really a question for Cigogne.
Alan, as to which issues are the best, it depends on what you're interested in. I suggest you go to our website and check out the cover gallery. If you click on the listings of each issue, you'll get a complete table of contents for that issue. A pretty nice feature of the website !

Any time! *Two of my favorite yet most technically challenging planes in terms of replication of *camoflauge application. *Somewhat of an obsession of mine.
One my list of life goals somewhere in the top 50 is to see that Halb CL fuselage that I beleive resides in a museum in Poland.
ps. Thanks for those photos Greg, finally got around to working up a DFW template profile and will be doing DFW, Aviatik, LVG, and Halb versions. Top views also. A lot to be done on that important plane.
