These plugs are supposed to be resistant to oil fouling because of the large center electrode.

The front side of the Gnome distributor ring. Wires, which are only about .040" or so, (I'll have to measure them to clarify that, but they're thin), and are made apparently of music wire, clip onto the rings and run to the spark plugs.

Rear side of the ring, which mounts to the back of the engine and spins with it. The 160 has two mags, which fire to two brushes on the main mount plate, which contact the brass contacts on this ring, so the spark can travel on to the spark plugs.

The rear crankcase. The distributor ring is keyed onto the rearmost land of this part, and the accessory drive gear threads into the inside back end.

A gnome spark plug wire and one of the two ignition brushes. The wire is .032" music wire, the end with the spring on it clips to the eyes on the distributor ring, and the other end clips to the spark plug. Cole Palen, Fred Murrin, and others use safety wire twisted and fastened securely to the dist ring and the plugs, as apparently the original style wire can come loose, wrap around all the other wires, and ground out the whole thing.

The main engine mount plate. It bolts to the firewall station of the airframe. The bottom is where the spline is for the key, upper right. Oil/fuel pump mounts at the bottom, ignition brushes at the top, a magneto on each side of the oil/fuel pump, ignition selector unit to the top right (as viewed from the pilot's cockpit), and gun synchroniser to the top left.

The crankshaft extends about a foot to the rear of this plate, where a much smaller flanged plate is the rear mount.
