I just received my copy of OTF Vol. 18, #2, the Summer edition. Very nice so far, anything with Billy Bishop in it is bound to be of great interest. I also like that there's an article on the Curtiss flying boats. It should be a good read.
Note, however, that I just got it on October 4th. The issues lists 'upcoming' events in early September (Dayton), so getting it now is a bit late.
Was this just mailed, or am I just now getting it for some reason.
VBR,
John

Yes, it was just mailed. Haven't received mine yet. At the Seminar they noted the enclosure about 'up-coming' events and bemoaned the fact that that Journal hadn't yet hit the street. With any luck at all, we will receive #18,4 in, say, June/July 2004 !! R.

Yeah, yeah Stephen... we all know how you feel!
There are differences, though, in the publications... AND OTF is 96 pages whereas C&C is only 68 pages. OTF gives you more content! The contributing profile artists... well, they are the same folks basically for both publications, Pearson, Comeau, Miller, Franzi and some others lending their talents. Good thing too!
There are some differences in the way the organizations are organized and run. C&C has a regular staff, whereas each issue of OTF has it's own Issue Editor. There are 12 (at least) of them for OTF. I think that C&C is tighter run as a result of this.
With that, the Fall Issue of OTF is going to press this week and will hit the streets late October/early November. (Still Fall by the calendar!) For those who complain about not enough British content... there will be plenty in the Fall Issue! A little German material as well, and also more "Rare Bird" content, the conclusion of Colin Ower's Curtiss HS flying boat series.
Winter Issue materials are in hand and I'm laying that out. That should ship to press on Nov. 15 for pre-Christmas deliver.

The LVG layout was nice. I was glad they could get use of my CVI profiles. It was a last minute deal but I had done those planes some time ago and just switched out my props. My hope is someone gets the "last flight" of the Shuttleworth plane well documented for future articles.
My hope is that C&C can do layouts with a few more profiles (5) in some cases than standard 3 or 4 on page which they have run. Make some use of other items in layouts such as engine blocks, mfg logos, etc, as done with last issue with my Albatros B series.

Everyone seems to have overlooked the fact that issue 3 of C&C was fairly late - it was supposed to have been released in August.
I don't think that most of us, barring Cigogne, understand the issues and difficulties involved in producing the two fine journals that we have here. We should be gratefull that these editorial teams are prepared to do the splendid work they do.
Just my opinion of course!

Stephen,
102 And Still Going Strong-We did not say he was the last living man from the RFC. Actually he died three weeks ago tomorrow.
Cigone.
OTF 96 pages & C&C 68 OTF more content. Well C&C is printed on A4 paper which is larger than the US page format, also there is a lot less white space in C&C and no repartition on the author profiles. More content I would not be so sure, certainly more pages.
C&C does not have a regular "staff", we do all the work in our spare time, just like the chaps in OTF, but they do not have to contribute to the majority of Journals as you know. We are certainly under more pressure to produce each Journal.
C&C was late due to the "Staff" having to work in paid employment, we do have other lives, but I can say issue 4 is under way.
