I am all new to the "forum world" (hopefully I don't screw it up)

I seek information on "aerial darts"...flechettes

I am an avid small arms cartridge collector, I specialize in "special purpose" rounds....some which are "flechette" loads (non aerial). *I recently discovered "aerial darts"......"flechettes"....first used pre WW1...I have a dozen variations....now seek more (to buy or trade)....but really wish for any photos of their use...aircraft "dumping them"...especially articles to read about their origins, ID's, use, variations, etc...

Welcome!
I am relatively new to the forum and am fascinated by the breadth of knowledge of the members. *It's also interesting to try to imagine what these people are like in the real world.

With regard to flechettes, I have read literally hundreds of books dealing with WWI aviation, and I cannot recall one first hand account of the use of flechettes, certainly no photos of their use. *My understanding is that thay were packed in canisters and dumped from the planes. * While they are very wicked looking, I do not believe that they were very effective. *Good luck on your research, and let us know what you come up with.

I have one. It looks like a little toy bomb with a pointed nose.

Could we exchange a photo of your example....I can email you a photo of my collection as well

PS...the examples I speak of are not the common US "lazy dogs" or "yellow dogs" dumped in canister bombs out of the likes of a B-52.....

The one that looks like a little bomb was used by the US. The European darts looked more like elongated drill bits.

Interestingly...the Prussian and an English example were approx 5" long...thing shafted...bomb like front...and "tail fins" too....I guess I should post some photos...thanks for the replies...this could be enlightening (is that easy)

Should I post this on another other sub-topic areas of this forum...such as under WW1 aviation also ??

Just attach photos to your reply. If the flechettes I have don't match up with any of yours, I'll post a photo.

I can't post photos. No digital camera, no scanner. I'll take a good old 35mm picture and when I get the roll developed I could send a copy.
