Hi everyone,

I have some questions regarding another book on the Lafayette Escadrille (didn't mean to start another thread on the subject, just a coincidence!). It is called 'Leagion of the Lafayette' by Arch Whitehouse. Now, I know that it was printed in the early sixties, and written by someone who was known for his embellishments, but I want an honest opinion. Does this book stand the test of time, or should it be relegated to the trash heap?

The reason that I say this is because I am sure much has come to light regarding the Lafayette Escadrille over the years, and I would expect any possible inaccuracies to come to light. I have been reading the book and find it well written and very stimulating. Could this be because of my lack of knowledge on the subject? I really haven't found any huge factual errors and the biographies seem top notch.

Well, what are your opinions?

regards

Coincidentally I am reading the same book now. Like yourself I am not so familiar with the subject to comment on the extent of any inaccuracies. There are others within the forum much more qualified in that area.
My copy is an old , beaten 1962 paperback which I picked up for a buck ($.05 more than the original price). I am enjoying the book thoroughly. Say what you will about Arch Whitehouse he is fun to read.

Thanks for your input Weldboy, I have basically the same feelings as your regarding the quality of the book. I guess by the silence of the others, it has not offended anyone too badly! I will assume that it is a good source for accurate and dependable information on the Lafayette Escadrille.

regards
