I have a series of 5 small books entitled "Fighters"
authored by JM Bruce which details British and French fighters through Morane Saulnier ANS. *The series was published by Doubleday and Co., Garden City NY in
1972. *Does anyone know if the series was extended beyond volume 5 and if so, is it available?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Leo,
I searched a couple of web-based used book services and found only vols. I-V. *In the descriptions there were no indications that there were more than five volumes in the series. *
Peace,
Wayne *

During the 1960's and 1970's, somebody at Doubleday must have liked planes. The company published the Profile pamphlets in about a dozen volumes as well the US edition of Kenneth Munson's book on WWI planes.

Mr. Bruce died, I believe, earlier this year. I seem to recall reading an appreciation of his work, in which it was stated that he had planned to write additional volumes of the series to cover aircraft of the other nations in WWI. For reasons that I don't remember (low sales? publisher's lack of interest?), no other volumes were published.

Thanks for the information, gents.
Speaking of profiles-the pamphlets were amalgamated and published in ten (I think) volumes. They also started to publish ships in profile and automobiles in profile. I don't know how far that project went. I have one volume of ships.

Actually, there were (are?) at least 14 bound volumes of aircraft profiles, not counting the splitting-up of Volume 1 into its own 2-volume set. I heard a rumor some years ago about a 15th volume, but I've never seen it listed. They're obtainable from time to time through eBay or Abebooks, and come in 2 differrent editions - Profile Publications in the UK, and Doubleday in the US. Although not always up to speed in technical information or the visual portrayal of WWI aircraft, they are still wonderful books to have.
