I am looking for any information on Alloa airfield or Caudron airfield as it was sometimes known due to there being a Caudron UK aircraft factory nearby and infact was used for these aircraft. I am looking for more details as this is more or less all I have of this airfield. The Airfield is near Stirling in Scotland.

I am hoping that someone has some info in a page of a book somewhere as I can find hardly any info at all.

Regards Scott

Scott,

For Caudron Aerodrome, I found this:

http://www.btinternet.com/~kaynes/Wakebook/ch12.htm

but it is in France, not Scotland.

Regarding Alloa - there is a website going into basic details of all UK airfiels/aerodromes, stuff like when operational, and map references etc. Unfortunately, for Alloa, all it says is "Closed".

Scott,

this looks promising for Alloa, unfortunately when I tried it none of the maps would load. Perhaps you could contact the web master?

This excellent site:
http://www.mteysx.f9.co.uk/Anzani/History.htm mentions the short lived British Caudron company of Cricklewood and Alloa.

Thanks for the effort Mike.

Unfortunately I have done all the usual goggle search patterns and all the hits came up with the same site as you mention. I have this basic info aswell but need a little more detail now. I have a few people who are working in Alloa and are looking into the history. When I get a little time I will post what they found here. Not much more than what I have already but I will have to find it on the comp first.

I believe the company started in France and had a UK branch which was Caudron UK who had the Alloa airfield but I need more info.

I also have seen the site that you mentioned with the maps but the map is only a basic outline of Scotland and numbers where the airfields were but no more than that. Perhaps I will find out more someday.

Perhaps Hendon have a map of the ww1 airfield.

Here is the info I mentioned in the post above. I thought I had more.

"The Caudron aerodrome was Next to the Caudron aircraft Factory on the banks of the river Forth About 1 Mile East of the old Alloa Docks. This is the area that is now Alloa Park early 1900's"

The other info I have was the same as the info above. The stuff about the Caudron company etc.

Scott,

came across something completely by accident the other night - the British Caudron Co. were sub-contractors manufacturing other companies aircraft in WW1.

If any of these were manufactured at the Alloa factory, there will be a good chance that there are photographs taken at the Alloa Aerodrome. In my experience, sub-contractors alway had an official set of photographs taken of the first machine off the line. It's another avenue of research at least!
