How thorough is the Ferko Collection regarding information on Flieger Abteilung units?

David Layton:
In my two visits to UTD I was after fighter aircraft primarily. This did not give me time to view the photo albums in the collection. I did not look at the Fl.Abt.files. If the Fl.Abt files are done as well as the Jasta files, I would say they are pretty damn good! It is what you do with what you find that counts. The photos will blow you mind!

Judge for yourself... here is a link that gives a brief description by box as to how the collection is organized by subject.

Happy browsing! Although it is text only, you can quickly see how much there is to it. Five tons of material I was told.

Greetings All; I would like to amplify the story just a bit. *For many years here in the USA we had one great authority on German aviation in WWI. *William (Bob Ross) Puglisi. Around the early sixties Mr. Puglisi suffered a terrible personal loss. *Its result was that he sold his collection in two parts. German Fighter units went to A.E.Ferko of Ohio. *German Two-seater units material went to James Kerr III of Texas. Both collections were amplified and increased exponentually *by their new owners for many years. Upon their demise Kerr in 1988, Ferko in the late 1990's. *Due to the insight of the Great George H. Williams these collections were reunited again at UTD. *They took the music and carried it beyond where they found it. To these fine souls we owe a great debt of gratitude!

Now, if they could just do something about the copy photographer there... he shoots the copies out of focus and way too contrasty! I've compared copies made when they were still in Ferko's ownership and after... those made at the Collection now... pretty sloppy work, I must say! They need to hire someone else who can see and work a camera!

Is there a possibility to order copies or ask for informations or something like that? I live in Europe, have seen that there might be things that I could use in the collection, but Dallas is far away for me (and pretty expensive too)...

Yes they do make copies of what you want. You pay for them and you have to know what your looking for.
