Let me recommend you "Dear Bert - An American Pilot in World War 1 Italy". It is the contemporary diary of George M D Lewis, an American trained in Italy and then a Caproni pilot. The book is 190 pages long and there are 3 or 4 photos to each page, most of them of trainer aircraft, people and places, but also combat airplanes. Very interesting, and the text is 100% in English. The book is published in Italy and is very cheap, just 15 euro (now about 16 bucks). You can contact the publisher Logisma at www.logisma.it or logisma@tin.it
Quality of printing is excellent too.

That sounds like a real interesting read. There dosn't seem to much written about the Allies side of the fight in Italy.
