I'm a bizarre fact nut and my uncle passed on a great one on to me about the RFC!

Is it true they used to Drink alcohol to counter the effects of fumes from the castor oil used in engines?
(Aparently the exhaust fumes used to give them the S**ts?)

is this true?

doe's anyone else have any amusing facts they'd like to share?

Cheers

Brandy and milk was a common stomach settler. Also, the effects of castor oil fumes, are dealt with in an article by Col. Steven Ruffin in two-parts called "An RX for Misery" which appeared in OTF. The second installment was in the Spring 2002 issue. It talked about this and that a pilot's nerves were more likely to cause the laxative effect and not the ingestion of castor oil. I believe he said that it wasn't ingested in large enough amounts to produce the effect, being vaporised.
