"Wings" Comic Book

When I was about 10-12 years old, I am now 73, there was a comic book printed entitled "Wings". I t was a long time ago, but I remember one character in particular, Grease Monkey Griffin. The hero was an RAF mechanic who managed at times to get into the air and wreak havoc wwith the Luftwaffe. Another section of the magazine published drawings by readers of futuristic airplanes. Does anyone else remember this magazine and any of its other features?

Hi Leo

Unfortunately the last issue came out the year after I was born, so although I know the name I can't remember actually reading any of the comics.

There's a listing of the 124 editions (1940 to 1954) at:

Wings Comics

Graeme:
Thank you ever so much for your reply and information about "Wings". It really brought back some memories. My allowance in 1940 was .50 cents per week. I believe Wings was a monthly publication and I I used to scoot to the local news stand to buy my copy.

Best wishes and thanks again:

leo
