Location of Flieger Abteilung 34 en 1915-1916

Hello all,

I'm just back from the city of Metz where I had a look in the local archives. They have the photos taken by a local photograph named Joseph Schweisthal, who was mobilised in the german army in 1914. He was a professionnal photographer and was affected to Flieger Abteilung 34, where he shot many pictures (200+).

I saw some interesting pictures of Fokker Eindeckers (E II 90, E III 413/15, 422/15 and 605/15) with some Aviatik two seaters. I think some KeK shared the airfield of FA 34. Boelke and the Komprintz are seen visiting the airfield.

Can anyone tell me where FA 34 was based during 1915 and 1916 ?

Thanks !
DTB

Post scriptum : Schweisthal took some pictures of Boelcke's burial.

I have losses that would firmly establish their presence in the German 5. Armee, but cannot provide a specific airfield. Sorry, R.

Cunel ?

Well... According to Imrie's book (German fighters unit 1914-1917), during Verdun battle, Maasgruppe West had fighters flying from Cunel aerodrome...

The fighters were Fokker from this Kek.

Thanks, guys !

airfield FFA 34

Hello forum,

I found a other airfield.
In the book: "Wie ich Flieger wurde" from Christof Hertel, a member and pilot of FFA 34 and later Schusta 22b this information:

24.12.1916 - Airfield Raillencourt - C.O. Hauptmann Kanik.
00.01.1917 - Hauptmann Kanik left FFA 34.

Greeting
Reinhard

Hi,

at the beginning of October 1916 FFA 34 became part of german 1.Army. CO was Hptm. Carganico, the airfield was Raillencourt.

Question Cunel aerodrome ...

Hello!

Can someone give me a hint where to find the Cunel aerodrome in the Verdun area?

The only Cunel I know is the little village exactly 1 km east of the big American cemetery of Romagne-sous-Montfaucon. As far as I can remember this area seemed not to be a good place for an aerodrome - there were far better places a few kilometers more eastwards along the river Meuse.

Who can help with some photos and/or maps?
