Ballon -Zug 2 , Ballon-Zug 124

Hello,

Does anyone have more info (location, etc) concerning Ballon-Zug 2 (Flanders 1916), and Ballon-Zug 124 of Feld-Luftschiffer-Abteilung 36, (Flanders 1917-1918).

Thanks and regards,

Cnock

Wilhelm Rang is the only person I know of who worked with BZ 124. I have nothing at all on BZ 2. This data is from Thorsten Pietsch; neither he nor I have any more at this time:

NAME- Rang, Wilhelm
RANK - Luftsch.
ASSIGNED - Ballonzug 124
DOB - 16.03.1896
PLACE OF BIRTH - Dortmund
DIED - 26.04.1918
BURIED - Bousbeque

CNOCK, I am working very hard right now on BZ and FLA data. I don't have a ton of data to share but perhaps we can trade what we have? PM me here. I need any and all possible sources on BZ and FLA material. Thanks.

Hello Stephen,

I don't have the exact locations, but
BZ 2 : 1916, sector Ypres
BZ 158 : summer 1918, sector Dixmude (Diksmuide)
FLA 36 : 16/2/1918 around Wervik (Franco-Belgian border)
BZ 124 : sept.1917, near Geluwe (Menin Road)

I'll send You a PM with docs.

Regards,

Cnock

Hi Cnock

I have some minor information about some FLAs and BZ.

For example I have BZ 2 in Flanders during 1917, and later during 1918 at northern part of Somme (2 Army). Basically this unit did not exist in 1916 because of the re-numbering in late 1916/early 1917 of "all" existing FLAs into BZ....
However the "name" FLA was kept as a name of the newly establish Balloon Gruppen (stab unit) which normally consisted of 2 to 4 BZ...In late 1917 BZ 2 actually belonged to FLA 2...

Does anyone have access to Teil 10, the book about the different German aviation units with formation dates etc...??
I would gladly pay for copies of the part dealing with Flak formations and Balloon formations...
