Hi,

My question may have been not completely clear.

Kasta 1 was part of KG I or Kagohl I. *Kasta 23 was part of KG 4.

At the start of 3rd Ypres, KG 1 and KG 4 were used by the AOK of the 4th German Army while the Kasta's 1 and 23 were part of the Gruppe Nord (Kofl 4A). *Very probably they stayed together on the same airfield.

As Nieuwmunster had already been used by the KG's for bombing the UK, there is a very good chance that they were staying overthere again, however nothing that confirms this upto now.

Or did they fly from another place ? *And were these two Kasta's on the same airfield as the KG's indeed as I think ?

Thanks and best from Regulus *

Hi Regulus

Kasta 23 was a "free" unit from 31 May 1917(when they arrived to 4 Army) until 24 Aug 1917 when they moved back to KG 4 stationed at the a/d Kruishouten...

The other existing units of KG 4 had arrived to the 4 Army as late as around 1 Aug 1917...

Hi Gunnar,

A free unit ? Great ! There goes my theory on the use of Nieuwmunster. :'( If the 23 was free, the 1 was probably in the same case.

That leaves us with about all the aerodromes of the Gruppe Nord. Jabbeke, Vlissegem, Nieuwmunster even possibly Stalhille. The others have not much chance as they were to far away.

BTW know any real good sources on the KG's ?

Thanks and best from Regulus
