Hi,
Another unit question. On the 29th October 1918 died a certain Zey Arthur. He was a Luftschiffer. This seems to be his unit. Does anyone know more about these units. Or is this just another name for a Ballon Zug or Fesselballon unit ?
Thanks and best from Regulus

Hello,
A Feld-Drachenwarte was a weather station with kites. They could be found all along the front and had to measure wind speeds and directions.
If you're interested in the different types of Fliegertruppen, I recommend the book by von Hoeppner 'Deutschlands Krieg in der Luft'. It gives a lot of overall views about the Fliegertruppen in WW1.

Jan,
Thank you very much for that information ! I never heard that anything like that existed before ! Great.
Think I will try to get the book of von Hoeppner. As I'm working on a general view of the units in our province... and even beyond.
Thanks and best from Regulus

Regulus:
The Battery Press, P.O.Box 198885, Nashville, TN, 37219, USA has an English language copy of "Germany's War in the Air" by General Ernst von Hoeppner available at $34.95 plus shipping?.

Regulus,
if necessary you can find some general info about the German "Heereswetterdienst" (literally: Army Weather Service) in Neumann´s book "Die deutschen Luftstreitkräfte im Weltkriege" page 186-197. The Marine had an own service called "Marine-Luftfahr-Wetterdienst".

Rammjaeger,
Thanks ! And another Marine unit ! They seem to keep coming from all sides these days !
Yesterday I did get my hands on the summary of the diary of a veterinarian of the Marinekorps and I found quite some batteries in it that I never heard of before !
Great stuff !
Will check the book, thanks !
Best from Regulus
