Hi,

I know that there was a Flakschule in Belgium by the end of the war. Did any of you ever hear something about the location this AA school had ? This remains one of the mysteries I would like to sort out since a very long time... :'(

Thanks and best from Regulus

Regulus,

I know there was Flakschule at Blankenberg (sp.). I have no idea when it was established. I may have the name of the C.O. If you want me to search for him, just yell. R.

Rick,

Thanks for your swift answer ! Yes that would be great. I am wondering if this had anything to do with the Marinekorps Flandern also or not.

Best from Regulus

Concerning the Flak there were also the following schools (not all in Belgium )

- Entfernungsmesser Schule established in La Fere in 1915 and moved to Gent in 1917.

- Flakkraftfahrschule in Valenciennes

- Flakscheinwerferschule Hannover built from the Flakscheinwerfer-Ersatztruppen in Hannover in 1917.

The Flakschießschule mentioned by Rick was the biggest one. It was transfered from Ostende to Blankenberghe at the request of the Marinekorps in 1917. It was subdivided into several Abteilungen - one for every calibre.

In spring 1918 there was also a small Flakschule established at Bruxelles because of the great demand for Flak-Crews for the "Operation Michael".

Best, Immo

Immo,

Thank you very much for that ! This makes things a lot clearer for me.

I will try to find out the exact location at Blankenberge where they were operating from. Something for my next visit in Brussels I think.

However I still have one question : do you know when the Brussels schule was established ? Was it after March 1918 ?

Thanks and best from Regulus

Hi Regulus,

unfortunately not! Spring 1918 is all I have

Note that this school wasn't an ordinary school. I named it wrong in my previous post. The correct name was "Flakhochschule" (a Flak-University )

The officers of the the other Flakschulen were trained there and it was established to guarantee a bunch of good and qualified officers for the peace time...

...Regulus, if you'll find out something new about these schools on your next trip to Bruxelles - let me know.

Cheers, Immo

Immo,

Egads, a 'hochschule'. That's a new one on me.
I found Flakschule Ostend in my files. I didn't know it moved to Blankenberg. R.

Immo,

A Flak University ? That's a goodie !

I do hope to get in Brussels in the first two weeks and will certainly try to find out more. I will let you know, but in case I would forget, give me a reminder ! Sometimes I forget one thing with another !

Thanks and best from Regulus
