Is anyone familiar with a "skull with the eye socket pierced by an arrow" insignia? American I assume.

Hello Rod:

I took a quick look at American Pursuit squadrons and didn't see anything that I thought matched your description. Can you please provide your source of the insignia ?

Thanks

Dave

Hello Rod:

Just noticed a book on ebay which covers US Army aviation insignias.

Hello Again, Rod F !

I presume your description of a skull with arrow through the eye socket insignia refers to the photo you reference in your other thread about "Hell's Angels" photographs. As I explained, that insignia was applied to the Sikorsky S-29 that was fitted up to paly the "Gotha" in the film. As far as I know, it is based on no actual wartime German or American insignia - pure Hollywood. However, there may have been some US Air Corps insignia in WWII that resembled it.

Thank you all for replying. Albeit much after the fact. : Greg is correct. It is in fact the Sikorsky S-29 that "posed" as a Gotha in "Hell's Angels" that has the subject insignia on it. See the thread "Hell's Angels photos" for image.

Hello Cam:

Badly phrased on my part. "I took a quick look at insignias used by American Pursuit squadrons" would have been a better way to put it.

The actual book I checked was the old Harleyford, UNITED STATES ARMY AND AIR FORCE FIGHTERS 1916 - 1961. There is a section on badges at the back.

Sorry for the confusion. It was late, I was tired, it was Tuesday and I was very LAZY.
