Lafayette Escadrille Memorial

the AF chief of staff and a bunch of other vips recently visited the LE memorial, which is in need of repair.

My brother and I went there in 2003, and it was closed off by a big plywood wall. Fortunately we made the mistake of walking on the grass, and soon the French caretaker came running over from his nearby house to yell at us to get off the grass. Recognizing that we were Americans, he offered to take us to the other side of the wall, and even took us down into the crypt. The whole place was obviously in need of refurbishing. Fantastic stuff though. Then we went back to his house for some refreshments, and he showed us the original Escadrille flag. Somewhere I have photos....
