Hi,

On the 2nd of October 1918 two Felixstowe's F2A were lost.
N4302 from Felixtowe base. And N4551 from 232 Squadron. Was this last one just an engine failure, or was it due to combat ?
Does anyone have information on the circumstances. It could have to do with SEE I at Zeebrugge, but this was the last day they were at the base, so chances are rather small.

Thanks and best from Regulus

G'day Regulus,

N4302 could have fallen to an EA, Sturtivant mentions that it was forced down during a hostile aircraft patrol. Henshaws book credits it with being a flying accident. Captain Barker and Lieutenant Galvayne were both killed.

N4551 did suffer from engine failure, all on board were interned on Oct 2nd 1918.

Hope this helps,

Andrew.

Yes Andrew ! It most certainly helps.

I now can be sure about N4551 !

However N4302 seems to remain a question. As no KTB of SEE I has ever been seen as far as I know for this period of the war, there are very few possibilities left. If it was lost due to enemy action SEE I has the most chance to be at the origin, but it was their last day at Zeebrugge also.

Perhaps with time and any luck ...

Best and thanks from Regulus
