204 Squadron RAF

Hi,

While flying from Snellegem-Jabbeke aerodrome this unit suffered enormous losses by the end of October 1918. Certainly 13 pilots were or POW, WIA or KIA in about one week time.
Coincidence wants that most of the losses were due to the Marinefeldjasta's, the former 'residents' of the Snellegem airfield.
Does anyone know how many pilots the unit counted around the end of October 1918, in other words was the unit on normal squadron strength or not. After the 2nd of November the unit seems to become completely inactive. Is this correct ?

Hi,

I have notes from the Officers Records of 204 Sqdn. The trouble is finding them as I have not fully unpacked from moving house. But on 1 Sept 1918 204 had the normal quota of pilots, 21 from memory. As you say they got slaughtered. The largest loss by any RAF fighter Squadron between 1 Sep 1918 and the EOW. They were kept up to strength and did fly in Nov 1918. If I can find them I shall send you some details shortly.

I'm just recently discovering the RAF history of the WW I airfield of my home town, and would like to include it in a new book.
