My Gallery
Hi
I'm making a model (digital) of the Boistrancourt aerodrome used by Jasta 5. I have already constructed buildings 4 and 5 and am now looking to make that long shed-like building with 4 "bays" oddly labeled 1 and 3 (as per the photos in the Squadron "in action" book pgs14 & 29)

From the photos you can see that this building is open it's entire length with structural supports and cross bracing in between the individual bays.
My question is:
Does anybody have a photo which more clearly shows the internal construction.
I would imagine that these buildings were slapped together using whatever materials and methods were on hand so I doubt there would be much standardisation.

In fact i would be happy with info on almost any building which needed a similar support structure (like a barn)
I am not a structural engineer and have little or no knowledge about construction methods - so I would hate to guess

TIA
Mark

Hi Mark,

I know that concerning the German side, a number of standard hangars were made. I have several aerial photo's who do confirm this. Early in the war, these didn't exist, but on pictures from 1917-1918 you see a big simularity.

If you want to you can post the picture at this adress :
flandersevents@belgacom.net

I can promise you only that I will look at it, and that there's quite a chance that I can be of any help.

Mark

Great looking model of building no. 4 and Albatros.
As to building no. 3, there are a few more pics of it in the Osprey 'Albatros Aces of WW1' book. None show very much, but the thing above the left hand door is some kind of plaque or sign. It is a dark colored rectangle with a white and ? oval design on it.
The building also looks distinctly different and more complicated structurally from the other four hangers, maybe a leftover from before the war?

Hope this helps.
