Dear colleages,
I have read in certain sources that there were American balloon units down in the Belfort area of operation. I have also seen the locations of American balloon units throughout the war, and none of these seem to be in the Alsace area. How can this be? Were there attachments of American balloons assigned to French balloon units? Also, does anyone know of any campaigns by the French and/or German armies during 1918 that occured in the Alsace sector? I am trying to get a picture of the atmosphere in this sector. I have read that it was a relatively quite sector, but I cannot believe that there wasn't any sustained combat of any kind.
