I'm trying to collect as much information on the German two-seater units that operated in the Armee-Abteilung B sector (Alsace area) in 1918. Any and all two-seater unit numbers and info would be appreciated. This could include bombing, recon., and infantry support. Thanks.

The following FA/FAAs were mostly or temporarily in AOK B sector during 1918:
45, 218, 223, 241, 243, 267, 282, 289
(Maybe some more that I know now)

My data is sparse, to say the least, but I show in August 1918: FA 243, 267, 282, and 289. In September they were joined by FA 45 and 258. R.

I appreciate the help guys. I wonder if anyone might know a little about the type of aircraft used by these units. I'm a little weak when it comes to the army support role of German aircraft. I guess I've spent most of my time studying the Jastas and I'm paying for it now!

Thanks again,

This late in the game the principal two-seater types being used were:

LVG C.V

LVG C.VI

DFV C.V

Halberstadt C.V

Rumpler C.IV, C.VI, C.VII, Rubild
(all virtually indistinguishable because all variants of C.IV design, different engine and equipment fittings determined type.)

Hello,

I do have one more question for all of you. Does anybody know at what locations the above units were stationed at during 1918? If you only know during a particular month, that would be fine also.

Hi Jasta 75

I have some scratchy notes on these units airfield.

FAA 218 at Schlettstad Süd from 10 March 1918.

FAA 223 at Mühlhausen sometimes during 1917/18

FAA 243 at Colmar Nord on 1 Aug 1918

FAA 267 at Habsheim on 1 Aug 1918

FAA 282 at Sierenz on 1 Aug 1918

FAA 289 at Habsheim on 1 Aug 1918, moved to Colmar Süd on 1 Sep 1918.

Gunnar,

there is a difference between Mühlhausen/Muhlhausen and Mülhausen/Mulhouse. Mühlhausen is located in the lower Alsace, Mülhausen in the upper Alsace. The airfield was in Mülhausen.
As to my data, FAA 289 spent its whole war time in Rixheim.
