Something different in AA guns?

IMG]http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t89/woodbasher2000/aagun-.jpg[/IMG]

An image from a photo I scored on Ebay, its not a flaming onion gun but....what is it? The reverse side looks like a big drum of 40mm + stubby grenade launcher type shells. Of interest is the little pistol grip at the rear.
Its on a modified artillery carriage and strikes me as an AA gun mounting, mainly because anything with shells as small as this wouldnt be this close to the front without a lot of sandbagging at the very least.

It is a "Flaming Onion" gun!

You found a M-Flak picture, Sheppo!
Also the big drum mentioned by you is a typical feature of the M-Flak.

Other modifications had no pistol grip and not the arm and backrest for the seat. As well a cross gun carriage was used instead of this improvised construction. Early M-Flak had a wheel mount of the field artillery.

Yes Sheppo, this kind of picture is rare. Congratulation!

The open drum with the 37 mm grenades is never ceasing to amaze me.

Thank you for sharing the pictures with us.

contact

Drop me your email in my message box and I'll send a big version of it. Its been corrected for "colour" and has had the detail enhanced with photoshop so theres more to it than what Ive put up.
The carriage is of interest, chocked up on blocks like an old holden.

I came across a photo of a 37 mm M-Flak in a book. It has a monstrous drum on the right side. Would the one in sheppos first picture have that also? we cannot see this side in the photo.

drum on RHS

yep, the photo came as a set and had another image with the reverse side relatively clear. (given that the gun is camoflaged by a big bush!) The drum is evident and it is quite a monster. Very similar to a grown up version of the 40mm automatic grenade launchers used nowadays on US Humvees.
Drop me a Private mail with your details if you would like a copy of the HIres scan.
