Where were Aerodromes?

Where can I find information on just where the Aerodromes were located? I also want some good information on just what daily life was really like on an airdrome (for the pilots and the mechanics and whoever else "peopled" them...French and British...in the early days of the war....up until early to mid-1917. I've read Letters from a World War I Aviator by Josiah P. Rowe, War Birds unofficially by Springs (who was a very good writer), and From the Ground Up-A History of R.A.F. Ground Crew by F. J. Adkin.

There was an article in Over the Front - I think it was Vol VI - perhaps Spring (I'm not home, so I can't check)- it has a Breguet on the cover, that covered most of the Great War dromes. Also, Mike O'Connor has a set of small books in the Pen & Sword Battleground series that covers many of the more important dromes in great depth. And, there is a website that spots many of the German dromes - search for the thread in this section.
Cheers,
shredward

Here's what you're looking for fella's. A most excellent feat of development, compiled by Dave Townsend.

The only slight problem is, I think it only works properly using the 'Firefox' browser, so you'll have to download that first.

That's no major setback though, because 'Firefox' is really very good to use anyway...For a start you can enjoy this forum without all the rather annoying adverts.

So, only click on this link if you're using 'Firefox'.

WW1 Aeroplane Squadrons

Shredward, thanks for the book recommendations. I can't find the O'Connor series you talked about. Are you sure of the title?

I've GOT to subscribe to Over The Front. One of those things I've been wanting to do for quite awhile.

Southside Bucky...that website is great! Thanks!

Where were Aerodromes?

The Over The Front article was in the V.6 #1 Spring 1991 issue.
The article is 41 pages of which 33 are maps at about 6 miles to the inch and 5 are an index of all aerodromes listed.
