What got you interested in WW1 aviation?

So,what got you interested in the great subject? For me,its either WW1 books from the local library,WW1 aviation books at my elementary schools library,or Red Baron 3D.To me,there is something about aviation of The Great War that strikes an undescribable feeling of facination. The aircrafts simple yet beautiful looks brings a feeling of grandure.I don't know, the vintage look to them is just so striking and elegant. The story behind it is also quite strikingly facinating and different.WW1 air combat almost seems like a fantacy,a imaginative story written by the most ingenious of thought.
Its just a facinating thing with wonderful figures and elegant aircraft.

I received two gifts on my sixth birthday. One was the Biggles book 'The Camels Are Coming', which I still have. The other was an Airfix kit of the Albatross D.V in 1/72nd scale, the parts of the model were made in a lovely shade of light blue.

I've been hooked for life since then.

When I was a child, I was a big Peanuts / Snoopy fan and there was just something about the whole Red Baron, WWI, Sopwith Camel thing that intrigued me. After I began to research the REAL Red Baron, I was hooked.

Building balsa Sopwith Camel model in the early 1950'a and then the Red Baron Flight sims.
I still have RB-3D on the hard drive and am very glad to see some new WWI flight simulations are scheduled to be soon released. Have been giving Over Flanders Fields Phase 2 some flight time and awaiting the release of the new Phase 3. Snoopy is also a friend of mine.

I remember watching The Blue Max and The Great Waldo Pepper as a kid. There was a coin operated game called Red Baron with pyramids for hills and bad graphics all around. Nearly 20 yrs later we got RB3D.

My interest in WWI aviation came from my history classes in school and seeing some avaition films. I remember my first fighter was the D-VII. I fell head over heels for that aircraft. There was something really challenging about flying in an open cockpit aircraft and just having a machine gun for armament. There was also the early Code of Honor that drew my attention.

I started reading books and seeing any movie about WWI aviation that I could find. Now I have a nice library of books and films, belong to a few organizations, have a few original collectables, a replica uniform and even got hooked on RedBaron 3-D. My ultimate dream is to learn to fly so I can fly a full-scale or 3/4th. scale D-VII.

My interest in WW1 started with my dad who was born in 1919. He told me wonderful tales about the Red Baron and all the great French and British aces. The interest was enhanced greatly by the Aurora kits he would build in our basement.

Mine started with my dad's aviation magazines from the 30's. Flying Aces, Airtrails, Model Airplane News, and of Course Arch Whitehouse.
