Hi Thommy

I dont think that Lt dR Heinrich Büssing (P) ever was in Kest 4a. Instead he joined Kest 4b in early summer of 1917 after leaving Jasta 5.

Kest 4a and Kest 4b was created when "old" Kest 4 was split up in two units on 15 Apr 17.
The location at that time for Kest 4b was Freiburg in Br., a nice town I have visited several times...

On 3 Oct 18 Kest 4b was renamed to Jasta 84w. I dont have any known observers serving in Kest 4b...sot it was basically an one-seater unit.

Kest 4a was stationed mostly at Böblingen near Stuttgart.

Oswald Boelcke was never in any Kest, but he served in the Verdun sector in spring - early summer of 1916.

Do you have any more names, then I maybe can help you identfying units..?

Talking

Mate,
Any chance of finding any pictures of Oblt. Werner von Bake, or his funeral or pictures of Boelcke and perhaps young Werner Voss in that stack you have?

I have been looking for those three items for quite some time now.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi Thommy

Thanks for the added information...

It is a chance that there might be connection between Boelcke and Büssing...however we must remember that photos of the "flying heroes" like Boelcke were widely circulated and probably ended up in hundreds of photo albums after the War....

During a month in the autumn of 1916, Büssings Jasta 5 served within the same Army as Jasta 2....so maybe Boelcke visited them some day..?

A problem is that I dont knew where Büssing came from when he joined Jasta 5 in late August of 1916. He was apparently attached to KEK Avillers (not an independant unit) but his home unit is unknown...

Do you have his service record, might be a small Militärpass or similar where all basic information is given, like units decorations etc....???
