OOC claims

I'm begining to think that the much maligned ' out of control ' claims should have a bit more respect. The threads about ooc claims that I've read on this forum were quite dismissive, even referring to them as " moral victories at best ". But reading ' Bloody April, Black September ' and ' Who Downed the Aces in WW1 ', I was struck by how many ooc claims actually resulted in destoyed aircraft and fatal injury. I realize that spinning down was a standard evasive manuaver to avoid a desperate situation and most ooc claims meant nothing, but the narratives in those books and others got me wondering. I'm willing to assume that as many as 10% of ooc claims represented at least substantialy damaged victims. Anyone agree or am I way off base?

While claiming the title of The Forum's Foremost OOC Doubter, I'd prob'ly accept a high figure of 10% resulting in measurable damage to the enemy. But considering that "destroyed" claims could run double or triple the actual results, logically a less definite category = even less.

Thanks for the response Barrett and I agree with your comments. I'd assume somewhere around 2.5 to 1 over claim with the British destroyed claims and 10 to 1 with ooc as I indicated. It's my understanding that the British claimed over 5000 in each category.
