Jasta 12 - Vaux Ferme near Laon

Hi,

This should be a real easy one for all the expertise on the forum.

Let's see. Jasta 12 was made out of KEK West at Vaux Ferme near Laon.

Other sources say Vaux Fe.

But what is the source of this Vaux Fe or Vaux Ferme ?

Who talked about this for the first time ? And what was the source ?

As I said, this should be so easy !

But I'm stupid on this matter, sorry.

Thanks !

Best from Johan

KEK West / Jasta 12

According to Michael Schmeelke's book Das Kriegstagebuch derJagdstaffel 12 (2004), it was "Faux Fe" -- but Vaux Ferme might be more correct.

Vaux-sous-Laon

Hi all,

as mentioned in an other forum: Vaux Ferme was possibly place in "Vaux-sous-Laon" (north-east of the city center nowadays).

Seeing an old map at < http://tinyurl.com/7tmt8bk > one can find a "F'es de Vaux" around the roundabout at the crossroads of "Rue du Point du Jour" and "Av. Charles de Gaulles".

Perhaps a Frenchman can help telling us what "F'es" means?

Thorsten,

It is Fg de Vaux, which means Faubourg de Vaux.

For what I've heard till now, the aerodrome was in the area of the station nowadays. But I still have to check that further.

Peter,

I think this might be a wrong enterpretation of Fg as well, but I would like to be certain before I go on the terrain overthere to find out more.

Meanwhile I've been able to locate a number of aerodromes of the KEK's completely or approx.

Vaux, Douai-Roucourt, Sivry, Cunel, Chassogne Ferme, Metz-Frescaty, Phalempin-Lille, Bertincourt, Vouziers,

Thanks for the help !

Best from Johan

KEK Stenay is located approx, as is Saint-Erme (Fokkerstaffel Ost) and Porcher.

Any further info on Vaux 'Fe' is most appreciated as I will have to do several trips to France to locate and photograph the former aerodromes.

Hello Johan,

I found this as I was looking for the name Paux-Fé (as it is spelled in German Fighter Units 1914-May 1917 by Alex Imrie):

Thank's to you, I got it... Vaux is the right spelling (and my first guess was wrong, but the "Paux" I found was the only one in the area)
It's Vaux Laon, and it's not Vaux FQ (or FE) who means nothing in mapping nomenclature, but Vaux Fbg (Fbg means "Faubourg", which is the french name for suburb).
North of Laon, there was a small suburb named Laon, which is now in the middle of the city. Coordinates are 03°38'21"E / 49°34'01"N. Just North of this subburb, near the railway, there was a large flat field... most probably the place for the searched aifield.

Hi Jos,

Your post is a very good confirmation of what I was thinking myself ! And that is just the kind of information I'm looking for, a number of good pinpointers so that I can be quite certain of the location of the aerodromes before I take off to the area itself to look for the final confirmation.
Thanks !
