Before you all start complaining about yet another Roderic Dallas question, let me assure you I'm getting there and the book will hopefully be out by the end of next year.

Now, Dallas' DSO was gazetted on 26th April 1918 but I can't seem to find details of the citation. Would they always have been published ? Does anyone have them ? If not where should I go to find them ?

cheers

For purposes of my own data base on DSO awards I should also like to know. It is evident that no citation was published then or thereafter. One would therefore have to look for a recommendation and for this one must resort to PRO documents in the AIR 1 series. Assuming the documents still exist, they are most likely in AIR 1/1155/204/5/2441. I suggest it because, in 1999, when looking for the citation to Redford Mulock's Bar to DSO, I consulted this file. I did not find a recommendation for the Bar, but did find a recommendation to a DSC which MIGHT have been upgraded to the Bar to DSO.

IF the file yields a recommendation for the award to Dallas, it might also have recommendations for others, viz: Wing Captain Robert Hamilton Clark-Hall and Wing Commander Henry Meyrick Cave-Brown-Cave. I would be equally interested to hear about their documentation.

No luck I'm afraid Hugh. The PRO tells me that AIR 1/1155/204/5/2441 deal with Aug-Dec 1917 only.

Oh, well

Adrian,

Dallas' DSO citation appears to be a "general" citation. He was awarded the decoration for his work in and around Dunkirk, but there does not seem to be a specific citation, just the "usual" bit about HM the King being pleased to award these decorations for service in this theatre.

I don't know where one could find specifics of his actions ... perhaps squadron record books????

The PRO website lists 101 files relating directly to Honours and Awards in Air 1. It is hard to tell which ones would yield Dallas data, but another candidate would be AIR 1/75/15/9/173.
