I was just curious if we was on this website somewhere. I've looked for him but I've haven't had any success. I haven't been able to find out how many planes he downed during WWI? *???

Looking forward to posting here.

I don't believe Billy Mitchell downed any enemy aircraft during WWI. If I remember correctly, he was a high level commanding officer in the USAS.

And while I could be wrong, I don't think he flew any combat missions.

VBR,

Al Lowe

A quick search of the web turns up several sites dealing with Mitchell (try history1900s.about.com/library/prm/blbillymitchell1.htm?iam=bomis&term=mitchell

See also www.worldwar1.com/dbc/mitchell.htm

He has been the subject of biographies, and of course there is the movie, now some 47 years old, "The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell".

His name keeps coming up on the "Discovery Wings Channel". No WWI victories, but one heck of a pilot.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I've been a little confused because I know Mitchell is considered sort of a WWI hero...but perhaps that's what he accomplished after WWI and before WWII. I mean just recently they made a stamp outta the guy. So I thought he was a major combat pilot. This website has truly been a great find, looking forward to posting more.
