Friends
A recognition that was given in the Luftstreitkräfte called Cup of Honor existed. (Ehrenbecher???)
Because this recognition doesn't appear mentioned regularly in the medals of the pilots??
Where images of this recognition can be seen?? How was it??
Not An official prize to the value??
To who could be given??
Was the last given Cup the one that received, Manfred von Richthofen?? (3Sept1917)
Any help is grateful..
Advanced thank you..
Dario

Hi Dario,

The Ehrenbecher was an official award that was recognized in the same manner as any other award. It was listed in the pilot's personal records, along with his other awards/medals. It signified a pilot's first aerial victory. Here you will find an example:

http://www.majorplm.com/catalogue/Cat-G-Me...becher1914.html

I do not know when the last one was awarded, but due to the fact that it was made out of pure silver, it may have been seen less often as the war started to turn against the Germans, and precious metals were needed elsewhere.

regards

If you can search back through the Aerodrome threads for 2003 there was a great topic called.....

Where Are von Richthofens silver cups?

Reply No 43 on 13 May 2003 has a fine picture of an Ehrenbecher.

You may also be interested in the Naval Air version...the fighting eagles bronze sculpture award..the Ehrengabe or Ehrenpries....a good example is available for sale at the Ken Greenfield's great WW1 site........

www.derrittmeister.com

item 14-184 I think.

Dont be surprised by the price though as named versions have sold over the last couple of years for $8000 plus plus plus.

Keen is a dealer of the highest integrity and should you be in a position to show interest in the item I can recommend him 100%.you will find his name appears periodically in our Forum, always speaking of his high reputation.

Oh well ! Off to the Dawn Patrol
More mulled wine nurse !
