I don't know if anybody else would find this interesting, but I sent an idea to the History Channel concerning their show "History's Mysteries".

As many of you already know, Manfred von Richthofen's brother Lothar was a pretty good ace himself, ending the war with 40 kills.

Lothar died in a plane crash in the 1920's. His body was buried next to his fathers in a cemetery in Germany. I was told that either in the 1940's or 1950's this cemetery had all of its headstones removed and it was converted into a park.

I thought it would be interesting to try to locate Lothar and his fathers bodies and relocate them to the von Richthofen family plot in Weisbaden.

Paul

Paul: I hope someone reads your post and take's the bite!

BTW (in connection with your previous post)... in Wiesbaden, MvR is buried near his sister, Bolko, and nephew. Within their grave grouping is a memorial plaque to Lothar. Their mother is also buried in the same Wiesbaden cemetery, but she's not located next to her children. If anyone is interested, I've got a photo of Lothar's memorial plaque that I can scan and post -- I'll have to look for it.

One way to get the History Channel's attention would be if (HINT,HINT ) if enough people post a message here:

http://boards.historychannel.com/forum.jsp?forum=88

saying it would be a good idea and that they would like to see this done.

If the family wished Albrecht and Lothar to be exhu... they would have done it (14 years after the fall of the iron border). Perhaps they just want them to 'rest in peace' in their homeland earth?!

Have a look at the bottom of the following site to see the place remembering Lothar in Wiesbaden:

Excellent site, frontflieger.

Do you have any idea of the name of the daughter of Lothar v. Richthofen and the Grafin Keyserlink? An Anna von Stryk who claimed to be a neice of Manfred von Richthofen visited this part of the country in 1992. I have always been curious as to which of the siblings may have been her parent.

Regards,

I want to say that Anna was one of Ilse's and that Lothar had a son named Wolf, or something to that effect. I can't remember specifically. Hope that helps a bit, in any event.

And as for Lothar's and Albrecht's burial places ... I agree. I always thought that they should at least mark the graves--not just theirs, but the rest of 'em, too. That would be more than a little hard to do, tho', I expect.

But I do agree with frontflieger. If the family wanted them exhumed, they probably would have done it some time back. But yours is still a very noble thought ... it would at least be nice if they could locate their graves.

But that's just my two cents' worth.

I would like to know a reason why the bodies should be relocated to the new v.Richthofen family plot in Wiesbaden?

Ok, now the cemetery is flattened and it is sad, that it is not possible anymore to visit the graves but we have to bear in mind, that the v.Richthofen family lived for almost 400 years on their estates in Silesia near its capital Breslau. Lothar and his father were buried in their native country, their native soil.

Wiesbaden in West-Germany was just a place of refuge for the familiy after WW2...

... who is able to locate the *former* graveyard. Comparing an old with a new map of the city should bring this information... e.g. the monument for MvR in Schweidnitz still exists ... only the metal plate is missing
