Hauptmann Blum and Hauptmann Freytag

Hi Forumites,

I search for info about some more early German aviators with the rank of a Hauptmann in August 1914:

CO Feld-Flieger-Abteilung 25: Hauptmann Blum
CO Feld-Flieger-Abteilung 28: Hauptmann Freytag

TIA.

VBR

Hello Rammjäger

I have that Hptm Ernst Blum was an observer. As FFA 25 was formed out of FB 4/3 he "might" have served in that unit before the War...?
He left the command of FFA 25 in Aug 1915 and was transferred to Idflieg.
I dont knew how long he stayed at Idflieg (probably short) as he later served in FEA 5 in Hannover (Com?) at un-specific date...
However he had joined FEA 6 in Grossenhain in 1916 as commander but left on 5 Jun 16 to the Infantry....then he disapear from the history..
Sorry, I dont have basic facts about this flyer...

I dont knew if Hptm Georg Freytag was pilot or observer, but I have that served originally within FAR 11 and was promoted to Hptm on 27 Jan 14...I wonder why "all" people where promoted on this late January date..
FFA 28 had been formed out of FB 3/2...

Then I have a "big hole" in his service record but he took over the command of FFA 18 on 17 Nov 16....then another hole until summer 1918 when he was commander of Grufl 2. He left Grufl 2 on 28 Aug 18 and went to the stab of Kofl 7 ...
Also regarding Freytag I dont have any basic information like date of birth etc..

Hello Gunnar,

once more I have to say thank you very much for your help!

Nevertheless I have a problem with Blum after your information.

I know about the service of the fighter pilot Blume in Großenhain but have no Hauptmann Blum in my files for Großenhain in 1916:

In 1916 commanded Hptm. von Jena until 24. February, then Hptm. Musset took over and in July (?) Hptm. Steinkopf-Hartig became commander and continued so to the next (3rd) "period of command" of Hauptmann von Minckwitz in October 1917.

When did Blum take over command according to your source (if that is mentioned)?

>>I wonder why "all" people where promoted on this late January date..<<

Even worse some guys - like Windisch and Wüsthoff - had the boldness to have birthday on the same day like the Kaiser (o.k. there were some years difference)!

For the Saxons look at the 25th May on the roles for medals etc. - Reason clear

Hm...

My sources regarding Hptm Ernst Blum are "only" secondary sources and could well be wrong, the notes also dont give any dates for possible service within FEA 6...
So, I have removed Blum from my FEA 6 file, but will continue having him within my FEA 5 for a while...

Sadly most of my information regarding high ranked German officers are more or less un-complete....but they are slowly getting better and better..

Do you knew what happened with Alfred Musset after he left the command of FEA 6...?

Gunnar,

I believe I have more about Musset but have to scan my files, books and e-mails for this purpose. I will not come up with a result before the weekend. Hopefully I will find also the Zimmermann-source again.
