Immo,
Thanks for the note on von Hantelmann. I did a web search on him, and found a site "Finck v. Finckenstein" (http://pages.prodigy.net/ptheroff/gotha/finck.html) (do a Control-F to search on Hantelmann, you will never find it otherwise) which includes details from his wife's family. It gave his place of birth as Rokietnice (I am sure the R was misread as a K in Fraktur; probably my misreading). It gave his place of death as Charcice. Note the extra e at the end. Do these two places retain these names in the current Poland?

Frank.

Hello Frank,

yes, I know the website you found. Rokietnice is spelled Rokietnica today, a small town with around 8000 inhabitants ca. 20km NNW of Poznan (Posen). Concerning Charcic or Charcice, I found both versions..., this is not a town, it's more a name for a countryside. In the past there had only been a forest ranger's lodge and a manor house.
