Smile Karl Odebrett

Hello!

My friend Clemente Balladares found in Caracas the tomb of the German pilot in the Great War, Karl Odebrett.

Is my question, if somebody could tell me something on him, reasons of coming to Venezuela?

Would it also be of my interest to know if this pilot has some airplane with personal marks?

Frontflieger writes that almost it becomes worthy of the 'Pour le Mérite', but the end of the war arrived first.

The data that I know are those of the list of aces of the The Aerodrome.

Leutnant d. L. Karl Odebrett

31.07.1890 Schneidemühl

13.02.1930 Caracas.

Halbabteilung Stralkow??

FEA 4, FA 47b, FA(A) 215, Jasta 16b, Jasta 42.

16 victories.

Führer Jasta 42

Pilotenschein- Nummer 659 Ingenieur 09.Feb.1914

Dario,

I can't provide any details as to why Odebrett may have moved to Caracas, but I can provide a better (but still spotty) service record for him.

Ltn.d.L. Karl Odebrett, pilot:
FEA 5___________ 5Aug14 - 10Nov14 (not FEA 4 per my stuff)
FFA 47 __________ 10Nov14 - 24May16 WIA (FFA 47b wasn't formed until Jan17)
Hospital_________ 24May16 -25Jul16
FA 215(A) _______ 25Jul16 -
FA 223(A) ______________ - 29Oct16
AFP 10 _________ 29Oct16 - 11Nov16
Jasta 16 ________ 11Nov16 - 7Sep17 WIA
Hospital _________ 7Sep17 - 11Oct17
FEA 2b__________ 11Oct17 - 15Dec17
Jasta 42 C.O. _____ 15Dec17 - 8Jul18
Leave ____________ 8Jul18 - 29Jul18
Jasta 42 C.O. _____ 29Jul18 - EOW

The German Historian Zuerl reported Odebrett moved to Venezuela in 1920 and became director of the Componia Navegacion de Carenero (sp?) - a train and shipping enterprise. Odebrett died in Caracas on 13 February 1930 because of a chronical kidney infection and was burried there.

Friend Rick and Rammjaeger.

Thanked by their helps.

Excellent and complete the registration of their acting in the Great War. Important the details on FEA 5 and FFA 47.

Very valuable the fact on Compañía de Navegación de Carenero, for what seems he arrives in Venezuela for work reasons.

Clemente Balladares already confirms with the report in the cemetery that he died from a flaw in the liver in the date known.

Their graveyard is in the Jewish section. It is possible that he was Hebrew.

I wait that somebody more could make a contribution, maybe on some airplane with their personal marks.

Again giving him thank you, for their data on the topic.
