Greetings -

I am trying to determine the crew of the Hannover CL III downed on 4 October by the 28th Aero. Alan Toelle did and excellent article called "Upstairs/Downstairs" which described the combat and results in OtF Volume 3/1 (I think....).
Alan is nothing if not thorough and I expect if the crew names were avaialble when he wrote the article, they would have been included at the time. I'm hoping they have surfaced in the meanwhile.

Rick Duiven's excellent "German Airmen...." does not mention the crew which were POW'd.

A comprehensive history of the 28th Aero is being put together and this incident would not be complete without the crew of this so any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

In the interest of attracting attention to a rather bland subject, here's a Pfalz D.III image. The original is 5x7"......

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Mike O'Neal:
Rick Duiven has resolved the EVR claim to this machine and has the crew names which he gave to me. First I presume you are talking about Han.Cl IIIa 3892/18, Schlasta 20 machine no.4. The crew was: Uffz.Hager and Uffz. Weber. EVR shot a Halb. Cl. type.

Dan -

Good seeing you in Dayton. Let's try to keep the intervals a little shorter than 25+ years shall we?

The Schlasta 20 machine I'm referring to is a Hawa CL III coded "5" - and it was downed by a 28th Aero pilot whose name escapes me at the moment. Alan's Toelles article had a photo of it being covered up by German POW's. The 28th Aero pilot landed nearby and while thr Hawa was all but intact, he flipped his SPAD on it's back . There are two good shots of that with the article as well. The SPAD is coded "7".

So back to square one ! Thanaks for the info on EVR's victory though, I'll update my files.....

Keep at it,
Mike

That Han.Cl.IIIa was assigned to the Schlasta 3 located at Preutin Air Field in October 1918. I don't think Rick has the crews names, I know I don't. The schlasta was the white nose cowling, and the 5 is the aircraft number.
Blue skies,
Dan-San
P.S: It was a real pleasure Mike in meeting you again after all those years, it won't be that long before we meet again, ( God willing and the creek don't rise.)
