Bavarian Hptm Georg Haberl: FFA 4b FA47b FA48b
Georg Haberl was born in 1882. Entered the Bavarian army in 1901, orginally in their Inf Regt 23, but later in Bav Inf Regt 21 before transferring to aviation.
Leutnant 9.3.03
Oberleutnant 26.10.11
Hauptmann 1.6.15
charakterisiert Major aD (1919? no Bavarian XXIV Years Service Cross)
I have all of his wartime unit assignments, thanks to Rick Duiven--
FFA 4b 10.10.14-10.12.16
FA 47b 15.1.-16.5.17
FA 48b 3.8.17-24.2.18
Grufl 19b 24.2.-17.3.18
and final air post Grufl Souchez very briefly, ending the war detached to artillery duty (earlier gaps had involved returns to infantry service, oddly enough)
He had the 1905 Bavarian Army Luitpold Jubilee Medal. I do not know the dates of awards for his two Iron Crosses or Bavarian Military Merit Order 4X, but have all the others-- or at least the dates they were gazetted:
Crown to Bav MMO4X (BMVO4XmKr) 8.8.18
Prussian Hohenzollern House Order 3X (HHOX) gazetted 1.9.17
Saxon Albert Order-Knight 1stX (SA3aX) 5.7.17
Mecklenburg-Schwerin Friedrich Franz Cross 2nd Class (MK2) 31.7.15
Anhalt Friedrich Cross (AK) 6.12.16
Brunswick Ernst August Cross 2nd Class (BrK2) 4.1.16
Austro-Hungarian Military Merit Cross 3rd Class/War Decoration (ÖM3K) 13.12.16
and Bavarian Flyers Commemorative Badge replacing earlier ?? flying badge.
This photo shows him defeated by a superior enemy and in captivity, circa 1933-35 in the uniform of an Oberstleutnant of the Reichsluftministerium. I can't be closer on the date because his cap insignia isn't showing, but from absence of a Hindenburg CrossX would say more likely 1933-34.
After this final photographic evidence of his surrender to the forces of matrimony, I have NO information on him. He did not make General in the Luftwaffe.
Does anyone know what happened to him AFTER his honeymoon?
BTW, this is typical of the sort of photos I research. There is nothing written on this large wedding portrait-- he is identifiable simply from his unique combination of awards.
