WWI picture?

I thought you may be able to help me place a date on this photo? My Grandfather is on the right. And why is his uniform different from the other man's? Jenny

Rhip

The uniform differences are because your grandfather was an officer and his NCO friend was not. Then as now, rank has its privileges and visible distinctions.

Jenny;

NCO = Non-Commissioned Officer. In this case a sergeant.

Regards

Neil

By the bar on his hat, your grandfather was a lieutenant. From the wings on his chest, he was a pilot. The wings look like they were made in England, so it is likely that he served overseas. Do you have any more information about him to share with us?

The Sam Browne. Are the boots different ? Grandad's boots look like riding boots.

thanks again

I posted a thread below with most of the info I know on him. I have postcards that he sent over from France and we have his medals. I just have to get them. I'll have to ask my mom about those boots. Jenny
