A Bavarian Hauptmann..

Hi

I am searching additional information about Hptm x Baur. I only knew that he originally belonged to 7 b FAR and that he was promoted to Hauptmann on 17 Jan 17...

Anyone who have his first name, or possible servicing dates. However any kind of added information is welcome...

Hello Gunnar,

I found a Baur in the regimental history:
Lt. Franz Baur (first he was Fähnrich) serving with the regiment pre-war from 8.7.1906-1.6.1914. He was apparently the Adjutant der Ersatz-Abteilung from 8/1914 to 1/1915.

This is the only Baur mentioned in the book, so he must be your man.

Regards,
Jan

Franz Baur

Hi Gunnar,

I agree with Jan,

Franz Bauer, born 1888 and commissioned as a Leutnant in 7. Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Prinz Regent Luitpold on 9.3.1908.

Oberleutnant: 30.11.1914.

By 1916 he had been awarded the Militär-Verdienst-Orden 4. Klasse mit Schwerten and the Prussian EK2

Regards
Glenn

Thanks both Jan and Glenn. (Glenn also regarding the other threads)...

Now it is "only" to find the units where he served within the Air Force, where he apparently served within the Flakwaffe....

Gunnar,

Franz Baur was a very famous Meteorologe.
He died on 2 November 1977 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe.

Use Google with the terms Franz, Baur and Meteorologe to find more!

Thanks Rick and Rammjäger for excellent (also Rick for the other threads) information....!

Sometimes a question about a "simple" soldier in the War leads to the most astonishing answers regarding the "man"...
