Karl Reiner?
Can anyone confirm this Bavarian as Karl Reiner? Interesting that this young man is wearing a dark blue prewar knee length double breasted frock coat (!!) With M1910 boards (red underlay not white) so probably 1915. Bavarian IOD89 sword and PRUSSIAN Observer badge!!

The Badge......
........ is of special interest. The clarity of the photo is such that upon closer examination, we see a Prussian issue Observer Badge, complete and resplendent in its' original silver frosting!

Reiner
Rick,
Although Reiner was an officer in 2./6. BIR in 1914 that shoulderboard is not from that regiment. 6. BIR had a cyper (W surmounted by a crown).

Stogieman,
I don't find any bavarian observer with the name Reiner.
Way do you mean this is a bavarian?

I thought it looked like "Reiser" written next to his name, but it is (yet again) light pencil and very small, so "Reiner" seemed plausible, and Karl was in a Bavarian unit numbered 6. As of Glenn's April 1916 Liste, I didn't find any other similar name in any Bavarian "6" unit.
Look at the ribbons-- his Bavarian ribbon is on top over the Iron Cross. Also, the state color Vs found in Imperial officers' shoulder boards do not show in this photo. Prussia had black Vs, but Bavaria had pale blue ones.

Hi
I only have "one" Lt dR x Reiner in my files....
The only information further is that he was posted stab Schlachtstaffelgruppe A* on 6 Jun from AFP 4...
As he had an Schlasta connection perhaps Rick has added information ...?
*at this time consisted of Schlasta 1,8,10,14 and 21..

It's a process....
.... of elimination. In the absence of visible flecks in the S/B's, this rules out Prussia. Witha ribbon mounted on top of an EK2, this leaves only two possibilities: Saxon or Bavarian. No other Kingdom, Principality or Duchy had precedence over Prussian awards. Close up of the ribbon shows white with blue black stripes...... that can only be Bavarian. No Saxon Order matches. I will not even pretend to be able to decipher the scrawl, that I leave to my "Evil Twin" to accomplish

No help here. Interesting though that he was assigned from the 4. Armee to the 7. Armee on 6Jun18. On this date Schlagru A (Ss 1,8,10,14, and 21) was under the command of Oblt. Emil Ziegler gen. Stege and in the 7. Armee preparing for Operation Gneisenau-Yorck (known to the Allies as the battle of Matz). R.
