Can you please tell me what's exactly on the top wing? A littloe drawing would be very helpful...

Thanks a lot!

Maybe it says 'E8015', like the tailfeathers, or just 'E' with the diagonal bar, like the fuselage sides...

Just a guess.

Angiolillo- What you are seeing are just aileron control horns. With ailerons on top and bottom wing, took a pretty hefty control horn.

Upper wing markings

Hi Angiolillo,

Yup, the markings on the top wing are a large white 'E' on the left wing (personal marking) as on the fuselage, then the two sloping white bars (the squadron emblem of No. 43 Squadron) repeated on the wing, with one bar on each side of the center section. This same photo appears in Datafile No. 46, with a lovely painting of this aircraft in action by Paul Monteagle on the front cover. On Oct. 1 1918, Mulcair shared in the downing of a Hannover in this aircraft. On 30 October, he sent down a Fokker D.VII over Aulnoye. This Snipe had arrived at the Squadron from No. 2 ASD on 30 August, and survived damage from a hailstorm on 7 September. It returned to England and survived until 1922!

Great!

Great news!
Thanks a lot. So a raw drawingof my guess would be something like that. Is it ok?

Bye and thanks,

Andrea

Great work!

Hi Angiolillo,

Wow! Looks great for a "raw drawing" or a highly finished one.

I might move the "E" just a bit closer to the cockade. The metal cowling panels were definitely 'battleship grey".

Very nice work!

Greg

Ok, I cheated a little... The base is a nice drawing by Vincenzo Auletta, who works on our little card game Wings of War (by the way, the aim of this threadis to put a card with this plane in the next game kit). Then I opened it with Paint and I personally did a messy E / \ on the upper wing... In this sense it is a raw draft. After Vincenzo will have done it properly, the effect will be far better.

Thanks again for all!!!

For the cowling: usually I see this half green, half gray profile:

But maybe it's just a trick of the shadow in the picture...
