Well , we all know how much you like Taffy, Ginger , so we were waiting for you . Ginger is the man to speak about Ira Jones with Ossie , and don't be concerned , Gingers bark is worse than his bite mate ....unless he actually bites you ofcourse ! . I must admit I was not certain about the question ? , did you want just his claims and his operational sorties , or were you after a victory to sortie ratio ( a more common thing with WWII pilots ) . I have no idea on his operation sortie figure , but he " claimed " 37 victory's according to the book Above The Trenches , these where made up of 1 balloon , 28 and 1 shared destroyed , 6 and 1 shared OOC . For actual kills ...well I'll let you talk to Craig about that one .
Hope thats some of what you were after ? .
Phil.

Well, I was just perusing through the Aces section of this site and noticed the "37 kills over three months". Comparatively that ratio is huge, but it doesn't have the same perspective of a kill per sortie ratio. I guess I didn't consider whether those types of records were kept. But yeah any specifics or even general insight into the average number of sorties per day that he might have been tasked with during his time of service would be cool.

I dont know the kill sortie rate for anyone from 74 Squadron, as I have never seen the ORB. An not from want of looking in the PRO.

I did work it out for Mannock in 40 squadron, Collishaw, Lambert and Fullard. The differences in them were all very interesting.

Jones, I think is not to bad for the "average" RAF ace, in terms of what he did, all witnessed fairly high destroyed ratio etc.

Cheers

Russell

You can't tease us like that, Russel. Let us know what Mannock etc's ratios were then. Sounds fascinating.

Vig.
