The last RAF claims were made at 15:45 on 10 November by Lt J Baalman, Lt E G Davies and Lt H B Oldham on No 29 Squadron, each claiming a Fokker DVII crashed in the vicinity of Moorleghem.

Other more knowledgeable Forumites will doubtless correct me, but the last claims I've got for other services are:

USAS - Maj M Kirby, 94th Squadron, a Fokker DVII destroyed at 10:50 on 10 November.

Belgian - Capt F M L Jacquet and Lt M A E J G G M de Crombrugghe de Looringhe of the 9me Escadrille, a two-seater east of Ghent at 09:00 on 6 November.

French - Sgt J A Connelly and MdL J Morvan of Spa 163, each claiming a Fokker DVII destroyed at 12:15 on 4 November.

I have details of two German claims on 10 November - Ltn Hans von Freden of Jasta 50, a Bristol Fighter (no time) and OffStllv Friedrich Altemeier of Jasta 24, an RE8 at 09:50 (British time) over Solre.

Question

Thanks Graeme for your reply. But Now I know where I've read the information that that the last kill was made by fokker DVIII. It was here!
Look at the fokker DVIII at this page: "it had the distinction of scoring the last aerial victory of the war."
So where's the truth?
Honza.

Well, Jasta 24 is given as one of those units supplied with the Fokker D.VIII. Perhaps the victory by Altemeier (Jasta 24) is assumed to have been accomplished in a D.VIII and is the last German victory of the war ????? (The Jasta 24 KTB provides no information regarding what type of aircraft Altemeier was flying on 10Nov18). R.

Where's the truth? Somewhere between here and there.

I've provided details of the RAF claims for which evidence exists in the form of Combat Reports, entries in Brigade Summaries etc. I make no other claim than these are facts.

In Henshaw's The Sky Their Battlefield, RAF casualties on 10 November 1918 include SE5a F5515, flown by Lt A M Rosenbleet of No 84 Squadron. An American, Rosenbleet was a member of a patrol that departed at 14:25 and was last seen landing under control west of Marienburg (he was taken prisoner). Even if he was brought down in combat sometime after No 29 Squadron's combats, I have yet to see details of a corresponding German claim. That is not to say that there wasn't one, just that nothing appears to have survived. The other "if" is whether or not his victor was flying a DVIII.

An alternative interpretation of the claim for the DVIII, is that it was credited with the last German aerial victory of the war, not necessarily the last victory, chronologically.

As it stands, Oldham's is probably the last "credited" Great War victory on the Western Front.
