Hi,

the following crew of Bosta 19 (Bogohl 4) was lost on 16sept1918 over Gonesse (just north of Le Bourget):

Uffz. Josef Wach (P),
Lt. Horst von Olearius (O),
Sgt. Max Zrocke (G)

... they're resting on the German Cemetary "Noyers-Pont-Maugis"... far away from the place they died??!!

A lot can happen in 87 years, it is possible that the 3 German airmen have been moved from their original burial place, during one the many concentration efforts of the German version of the War Graves Commission. (Kriegsgräberfursorge)

Hi,

Horst von Olearius (see the image) is the only crew member I could locate via
< www.volksbund.de >... ... Perhaps the other two were already in 1918 unknown when they were burried by French authorities in Paris!?

Is a Frenchman out there who is willing to search in the French journals of those days for further information? -- Merci beaucoup!!

This may be a rather difficult request to fullfill at the moment. I suspect most Frenchmen have their hands full with their 'friendly neighborhood Muslims' R.

Hello Thorsten

I don' t have access to vintage journals but I found an article about Paris bombings published in 1977 (fana #97). The author names only Olearius so I guess he is the only one who was identified by the french army.

" 2 aircrafts are shot down by AAA. An A.E.G. biplane flying at 1600m is hit. An engine fell off and the plane crashes. Among the 3 crew members, the corpse of lt Oléarius is identified. The second plane is a Gotha. It falls in Compiègne forest. Its crew escaped after burning the remains of the plane."

(in french air service war chronology, the 1st plane is a Gotha and the 2nd a 2-seater)
