Question Who Was the First German Pilot to Win Iron Cross

Hi, I was wondering who was the first German pilot to win the Iron Cross 2nd Class, also which pilot was the first to win the Iron Cross 1st class.

Thanks

Hauptmann von Richter for shooting down Errol Flynn.
Bet you stump even the elite of the Hun lovers with this one Dave!
I'd guesstimate that some of the first to join the fledgling air force may well have been already decorated for valour in the trenches?

Errol Flynn Dead?

Ginger you continue to amaze me. Are you saying that Sitting Bull flew for Kaiser Bill? I thought the Ogala Sioux had declared a strict policy of neutrality during the Great War. Oh well, you're the expert. VR, Roadhog (Hun lover in training) "Memento mori."

The answer would require complete lists which are not available.

For the Saxons an early EK II got Oberleutnant Clemens on 24 September 1914.

Rudolf Berthold is a good candidate for early awards but he was still an observer. He got the first EK II of the German 2. Armee on 13 September 1914 in his hand. EK I was handed over to him on 4 October 1914.

Von Hiddessen has had a very early EK I.

The "Tannenbergflieger" are worth a research too. As well some Bavarians.
